@LesRoseSyracuse
Since the Fall of 2016, I have served as a Broadcast and Digital Journalism Professor of Practice at the S.I. Newhouse School, Syracuse University. My duties include teaching at least three classes per semester, teaching SUmmer college, high school students, mentoring well over 100 Newhouse students and alumni, and teaching my skill set to master’s students. I also help students with internships and jobs through numerous industry contacts. I serve the University and the greater Syracuse area community as well as contribute to the betterment of the TV News photojournalism industry, which I represent to the school.
For 38 years, I was a television news photojournalist, field producer, video editor, and live truck operator. For 22 of those years, I was a photojournalist and field producer for CBS News in the LA Bureau. I worked with correspondent Steve Hartman for the series “Everybody Has a Story,” “Assignment America,” “60 Minutes 2,” and “On the Road with Steve Hartman.” In addition, I covered three decades of other national stories including Columbine and Pulse Nightclub mass shootings, 9-11 in Shanksville and NYC, the Nagano Olympics, California fires and earthquakes, as well as the trials OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson and the Menendez brothers.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles (officially 1986-2001, but still see my little brother)
I coach any journalist who asks for help with work issues, story writing, and finding stories.
Current and past coaching opportunities have included “Power Reporting” & “Teachapalooza” classes at the The Poynter Institute with Al Tompkins, comprised of professionals around the world. In addition to working with my current Syracuse University students, I also have and continue to mentor students from the University of Florida, the University of Southern California, The University of South Florida, and with CBS News interns.
As a member of the faculty and advisory board for the Student Television Network, I have helped two generations of middle school and high school journalism students in their transition to college journalism and many of those students have become professionals themselves.
